This pendant features a natural black Ethiopian opal, a gemstone renowned for its intense dark background from which vibrant flashes of green, red, and orange emerge.

Its characteristic play-of-color creates a dynamic effect that changes with every movement and with the light.

The stone is wrapped in brass wire, using the wire wrap technique. Made entirely by hand, in an artisanal design that allows the depth and visual complexity of the opal to be appreciated.

🌋🌧️ Formation of Ethiopian Opal

Formed in the volcanic lands of Ethiopia, this opal results from a mineral process spanning thousands to millions of years, where silica-rich water slowly deposits in igneous rocks.

The silica is perfectly organized into microspheres within the opal, allowing light to diffract and creating a play of color that evokes the intensity and depth of an aurora borealis.

Black opal owes its dark background to the presence of natural elements such as carbon, iron oxides, or the volcanic rock containing it. This background reduces light dispersion, unlike white opal, creating an intense contrast that enhances its color flashes.

Care: 

• ❌ Do not get wet

Ethiopian opals should not be wet because they are hydrophane, and when they absorb water, they lose their original luster until they appear whitish.

• Polish with metal polishing paste (e.g., yellow Dialux or white Dialux) and a microfiber cloth. Rub until it regains its golden color.
